Planning Your Visit

Where to find us:

Look out for the brown signs just off the A38 Devon Expressway, take the slip road signed Totnes/Buckfastleigh.  Follow the signs to Buckfastleigh town centre.  The Valiant Soldier Museum and Heritage Centre is easy to find at the bottom of Fore Street in Buckfastleigh, which is the main street. See the map below.  There are several car parks within easy walking distance of the museum and for those arriving by steam train it’s a 10 minute walk from South Devon Railway.

Group Bookings:

Group bookings for a guided tour of the Valiant Soldier can be arranged for 10-15 people or more during the times the Valiant is closed to the general public – e.g. during the winter months, evenings, etc. If you are fascinated by history, or simply curious, a guided walk is an opportunity to learn about the past and find out some of the stories about this unique pub. To find out more give us a call on 01364 644522 or email: info@valiantsoldier.org.uk to book a tour. The cost per person as part of a group will be £5.50.

During the time the Museum is closed for the winter months the valiant volunteers work in the background, maintaining the building and planning interesting exhibitions for you to see. The 2026 exhibition highlights Buckfastleigh’s wool and serge industries and the Hamlyn family’s key contributions.
