Our Purpose
This unique venue exists to unlock the history of the industrial Dartmoor town of Buckfastleigh and its surroundings. Our former pub, museum and walled garden inspire volunteers, visitors, tourists, locals and benefactors alike to delve into the fascinating working and social past of the area…… and make connections with the present and future.

Our Vision
We want the Valiant Soldier to become the popular information and learning hub for Buckfastleigh – a place where young and old will find answers to questions about our heritage as a mill town, wool town, rail town, working town and now in the 21^st century with our outstanding local attractions, a growing tourist town.

Our Mission
We conserve, maintain and interpret our buildings, garden, and heritage assets by presenting them in creative and interactive ways that excite our diverse visitors: education is our passion and we achieve this through exhibitions, public events, discussion groups, tours and talks, and soon, through access to our on line archive.

Our tourist information centre also aims to enthuse visitors to explore locally by providing guidance with a friendly touch. We fund our activities through entrance fees, grants, gifts and through our trading activities. Everything we do is grounded in our Purpose.
